This special ink, called “German Vermilion,” was produced using vermilion pigment imported from Germany, which the Suzuka craftsman personally obtained during his visit there last year. The sample characters shown below were written by our own shop owner using Bokurin, and you can see its rich black tone, making it perfect for kanji calligraphy practice and final works alike. According to our records, production ceased around 2005 (Heisei 17), likely marking the time of the maker’s retirement or closure. We are now offering this carefully preserved stock at its original price from that time, despite the ink having since aged and mellowed, which often enhances its quality. The ink is made purely from pine soot, with no added pigments, resulting in a naturally blue hue unique to this traditional process. It produces a highly transparent pale ink, with a refined blue-gray tone that conveys a sense of quiet elegance.
