This handmade brush holder is wrapped in Yuzen katazome paper, a type of washi (Japanese paper) decorated with traditional Yuzen dye patterns.

Cultural and Terminology Notes

Yuzen Katazome (友禅型染紙): A traditional Japanese paper-dyeing technique originating in Kyoto, characterized by intricate patterns and elegant color gradations. The method was historically developed from kimono dyeing (Yuzen-zome), and is now used in fine paper crafts and stationery.

Eto (干支): The Japanese zodiac, based on a 12-year cycle of animals (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Boar). Each year is associated with one of these animals and symbolizes certain personality traits or good fortune.
