中濃墨でも、にじみと基線がはっきりと出ます。
淡墨～超淡墨では幅の広い朱色の滲みが特徴です。

“Sōgen” (棕玄) is a uniquely formulated brown-toned ink stick handcrafted by Shinseidō, the last remaining ink artisan in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture—once renowned as a major production center of sumi ink. This ink is part of the officially designated traditional craft of Suzuka Ink (Suzuka-zumi).

Made primarily from bamboo soot, Sōgen is a special tea-brown sumi that offers both visual warmth and expressive range.

In medium-dark ink (chūnōboku), it produces clear outlines and crisp bleed effects.

In light to ultra-light ink (tanboku to chō-tanboku), it creates broad, reddish-brown feathering that adds depth and texture.

Ideal for expressive calligraphy and experimental sumi-e, this ink allows artists to explore non-traditional tones and atmospheric effects.
