奈良で墨の普及に邁進する墨匠『錦光園』による趣向を凝らした墨になります。

松竹株式会社監修のもと、
日本の伝統文化である歌舞伎の象徴的な「隈取」をモチーフに、錦光園にて製造しました。（松竹（株）の隈取図案を使用）

代表的な歌舞伎の演目の隈取と演目にちなんだ天然の「香り」も楽しめる、アートとしての奈良墨。

隈取の「隈」とは光と陰（かげ）の境目を意味し、血管や筋肉などを大胆に表現したもの。
さらに赤い隈取は正義感や勇気、血気盛んな若さなどを表します。

墨型は、現在日本で唯一の専業「墨型彫刻師」である中村雅峯氏（1932年生）による彫刻。
職人の造形美と奈良墨の香り、豊かな墨色をお愉しみください。

隈取は、『義経千本桜』「鳥居前」に登場する佐藤忠信(実は源九郎狐)の「火焔隈」。香りは、義経千本桜の演目名にちなんだ「桜」の香り。やさしく甘やかな香りです。

This unique ink stick was created by Kinkoen, a master ink maker in Nara dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of traditional sumi ink.

Produced under the supervision of Shochiku Co., Ltd., it features a design inspired by kumadori—the bold makeup worn by kabuki actors—symbolizing Japan’s rich performing arts heritage.
(The kumadori design used is an official motif licensed by Shochiku Co., Ltd.)

This piece is not only a functional ink stick, but also an artistic expression of Nara sumi. It allows you to enjoy the visual beauty of its sculpted form, the deep color of the ink, and a natural fragrance that reflects the spirit of the kabuki play it represents.

The term kumadori refers to the stylized shading between light and shadow, traditionally used to emphasize facial muscles and veins.
The red kumadori symbolizes justice, courage, and youthful energy.

The mold for this ink stick was carved by Gahō Nakamura (b. 1932), Japan’s only full-time traditional ink mold carver.

This version features the Kumadori of Sato Tadanobu (actually the magical fox spirit Genkurō) from the kabuki play Yoshitsune Senbonzakura, scene “Toriimae.”
The ink is scented with a gentle and sweet cherry blossom fragrance, evoking the beauty of the play’s title.
